3 The Glories of the World's Fair The Greatest of all Photographic Reproductions
The Fair 1894 Booklet Good+
You are buying the 10 volume set of oversized (11" by 13. 5") booklets containing sixteen images each of the 1893 The World's Fair Columbian Exposition (aka The Chicago World's Fair). The introduction in Part 1 of the series states that there are 10 parts -- all of which are represented. The only date on these publications we identified was the 1894 copyright date. Interestingly, this series was published by The Fair, a Chicago department store located at State, Adams and Dearborn Streets which was started in 1874 and purchased by Montgomery Ward in 1957. The flagship store building at this location was demolished in 1984. Of course, Montgomery Ward shuttered operations in 2001. Defects in the booklets are as follows: Part 1: slight chip at bottom of spine fold, smaill tear along top of back cover and top corner wrinkle on back cover; Part 2: slight bottom page edge foxing, small tear to side edge of back cover and small stain at top edge of back cover; Part 3: small tear at bottom spine fold; Part 4 & 5: no obvious defects; Part 6: slight crease on top front cover; Part 7: slight wrinkling of covers and pages at bottom corner; Part 8: slight chipping along bottom edge and small chip repair using book tissue mending tape, and small tear at middle of back cover; Part 9: slight darkening/soiling to front; and Part 10: chipping to bottom edges of front and back covers, a three inch tear at the middle bottom back cover, wrinkled and slightly chipped back cover upper corner, and soiling to bottom corner of back cover some of which has bled through to the corner (white space) of the last page on which an image is featured. Interestingly, this back cover advertises the availability of a binder for this series at a cost of $0.43. I have never seen an example of this binder. ; This would make a truly stunning addition to either a World's Fair Collector or a Chicago history buff! Please contact us for photos. ; The Fair Series; Vol. 1/10/2013; 8vo 8" - 9" tall

8 Garrathan, Gilbert J. The Catholic Church in Chicago 1673 - 1871
University Microfilms 1968 Hardcover Good
The book is tight, clean and does NOT have a musty smell. Boards are covered in brown cloth and the dark brown design on the front cover shows a small scuff mark affecting only the color but not the cloth. The bottom right hand corner of the pages (approximately an inch square) were wet or damp at one time and have made this area of the pages slightly wavy although they are not discolored. A very faint moisture stain is however visible when the book is closed approximately an inch up from the bottom of the page edges. No moisture stain on the boards is evident. We describe all the defects we can in order not to disappoint customers, however a picture is worth a thousand words. ; This is the Illinois Sesquicentennial Edition of this 1921 book published in 1968. The 1921 edition was published by Loyola University Press. This book is really in good shape, so please contact us for pictures if you are interested! ; 8vo 8" - 9" tall; 236 pages
